Director's Notes: Summer 2005. Brian Morgan and I were hyped as we continuously discovered Garage and Business on the Bad Side of Town were being watched and circulated by people we didn't even know. I was also amazed and extremely pleased that people actually liked watching narratives without a story. We started writing a longer short in the same genre, with the intention to put a bit of money behind it (i.e.: 100 dollars!). The Caped Avengah's Pie Adventures is the result. In November of the same year we called out two of our long-time collaborators, Corey Stevens and Shawn Verge, to play the Avengah and the hobo, and Stephen Leck to man the broom pole and make an uncredited cameo. Editing was on-and-off for two years as my cutting time was devoted to concert videos. In September '06 I finally had a decent rough cut, but it wasn't clicking, and frankly, it was boring. By February '07 I was cycling through music, when I heard Friendly Rich and The Lollipop People's Miserable End of Captain Alonso. The song couldn't have been more perfect; it had a variety of tempos and variations, and of course, was goofy as hell. Our little movie finally took on a life of it's own. 99% done, it was held in limbo for another year, surviving no less than two hard drive crashes, computer theft, water damage, and a logic board replacement. So is The Caped Avengah's Pie Adventure's about? Whatever you want it to be - John "Wiggles" Baxter |
